Job Title
CPU-SoC Silicon Design Engineering Intern
Role Summary
Internship on a CPU/SoC silicon design team working on training, design, validation and integration of next-generation SoC/CPU components for Intel products. Work spans RTL-level verification, physical design steps, third-party IP integration, and system-level validation.
This role is eligible for a hybrid work model (split between on-site and off-site at the assigned Intel site).
Experience Level
Entry-level — internship for students (undergraduate level). Suitable for current Bachelor degree students in relevant majors.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist RTL functional validation using CAD simulation tools and verify logic against models and silicon.
- Support VLSI structural/physical design flows: synthesis, floorplanning, power-grid and clock tree design, timing budgeting and closure, place-and-route, RC extraction, and integration.
- Integrate and validate third-party IPs: synthesis, timing convergence, pre- and post-silicon debug, and handling cross-domain signals and standard interfaces (e.g. LPDDR, eMMC, SATA, UFS, PCIe, USB, MIPI).
- Develop test environments, validation methodology and test plans to exercise boundary conditions and find functional bugs.
- Contribute to SoC design flow end-to-end: architecture, logic design, RTL coding, simulation, timing and power analysis to prepare designs for manufacturing.
- Collaborate with design teams, architects, system integration, firmware/middleware, drivers and OS/application teams for system-level validation.
Requirements
Minimum skills and experience expected:
- Good written and verbal communication skills; proficient in English.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and common CAD tooling workflows.
- Ability to work within a team and follow engineering processes for design, verification and integration.
-
Nice-to-have: Knowledge of VLSI design, SoC/PC architecture and SystemVerilog.
Education Requirements
Students actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, EECS or a related technical major, with a good cumulative GPA.
