Job Title

CPU Server Physical Design Timing Engineer

Role Summary

Work on CPU timing closure for Oryon CPU cores within Qualcomm's CPU engineering team. The role focuses on static timing analysis (STA), timing constraint development, implementation flow optimization, and automation to meet power, area and performance targets on advanced process nodes.

Experience Level

Mid-level.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include timing analysis, STA flow development, and automation for CPU physical implementation.

  • Set up, converge, review, and sign off STA for multi-mode, multi-voltage domain CPU core designs.
  • Perform timing analysis, validation and debug across multiple PVT corners using tools such as PrimeTime and Tempus.
  • Run and optimize STA flows (Primetime/Tempus) and perform Spice-to-STA correlation.
  • Identify root causes of timing miscorrelation across design levels and propose corrective actions.
  • Evaluate timing methodologies and tools across designs and technology nodes (including N2/N3).
  • Develop automation and scripts within STA/physical design tools to improve methodology and flow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with microarchitecture, RTL, implementation teams and central timing methodology teams to drive PPA goals.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • Proven experience in STA timing analysis, timing constraint definition, and timing closure for complex SoC/CPU designs.
  • Hands-on experience with STA tools such as PrimeTime and/or Tempus and familiarity with STA flow optimization.
  • Experience with implementation flows and tools (e.g., ICC/ICC2, Innovus) from RTL to GDS.
  • Strong scripting skills for design automation (TCL, Perl, Python).
  • Ability to analyze signal integrity, parasitic impacts, and feed-through handling as they affect timing.
  • Good technical writing and cross-team communication skills.

Education Requirements

Candidate should have one of the following: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field plus 4+ years relevant experience; OR Master's in those fields plus 3+ years relevant experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years relevant experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
