CPU RTL Power Engineer (Sr Staff/Principal)
QualcommJob Title
CPU RTL Power Engineer (Sr Staff/Principal)
Role Summary
Senior ASIC/RTL engineer responsible for low-power CPU implementation and power analysis for high-performance Snapdragon SoCs. Works cross-functionally with RTL design, physical design, low-power and automation teams to optimize power, performance, and area for sub-10nm mobile processors.
Experience Level
Senior β the posting requires extensive senior experience; the role specifies 12+ years of low-power design experience in several sections.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities for the CPU RTL power engineering role.
- Perform timing and power analysis, signoff STA and low-power checks across RTL and implementation stages.
- Develop and run design-of-experiment comparisons to improve power/performance results and report metrics.
- Collaborate closely with RTL, physical design, low-power, and automation teams to optimize power and performance trade-offs.
- Analyze metrics and produce concise tabulations and comparisons for design decisions.
- Support ASIC bring-up, debugging, and yield-related power/performance investigations.
Requirements
Must-have technical qualifications and tools experience. Degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- 12+ years of experience in low-power RTL/ASIC design and low-power verification/flows.
- Expertise with power signoff and analysis tools (PrimeTime/PTPX, PowerArtist) and static timing analysis workflows.
- Experience with synthesis, constraints, and signoff STA; familiarity with DCT/DCG or RC/RCP methodologies.
- Strong understanding of multiple power domains and complex UPF/CPF definitions.
- Perl and Tcl scripting for automation and flow integration.
- Deep knowledge of CPU micro-architecture, critical paths, and high-speed CPU implementation techniques.
- Understanding of place-and-route flow and implementation trade-offs (power, performance, area).
- Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ASIC development/debugging experience.
- Nice-to-have: experience with automation frameworks and prior work on sub-10nm mobile SoC designs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field (minimum 4+ years hardware engineering experience); or Master's degree in those fields (minimum 3+ years); or PhD in those fields (minimum 2+ years). The posting allows related work experience in lieu of the degree-based experience requirements.
