CPU RTL Power Engineer (Senior/Lead/Staff)
QualcommJob Title
CPU RTL Power Engineer (Senior/Lead/Staff)
Role Summary
Work on low-power RTL signoff and power optimization for Snapdragon CPU designs targeting sub-10nm mobile SoCs. Embedded in the hardware/ASIC engineering team, you will collaborate with RTL, physical design, low-power, and automation teams to meet performance, power, and area targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience range 3–10 years in low-power ASIC or RTL power engineering. Degree-adjusted minimums in the posting: 4+ years with a Bachelor's, 3+ with a Master's, 2+ with a PhD; equivalent experience considered.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve signoff-level power and timing analysis, optimization, and cross-team coordination.
- Perform low-power checks, timing and power analysis; signoff STA using Primetime/PTPX.
- Use power analysis tools (PrimePower/PTPX, PowerArtist) and apply synthesis/constraint techniques.
- Create design-of-experiment setups and perform comparative analysis to improve results quality.
- Collaborate with RTL design, physical design, low-power and automation teams to optimize performance, power, and area.
- Tabulate and report metrics for analysis and decision-making.
- Participate in ASIC flow, bring-up, and debugging with focus on CPU critical paths and high-speed implementation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience.
- 3–10 years of industry experience in low-power design and verification for ASIC/CPU implementations.
- Hands-on experience with Primetime/PTPX for static timing analysis and signoff.
- Experience with power analysis tools such as PrimePower/PTPX and PowerArtist.
- Familiarity with synthesis and physical constraints; experience with DCT/DCG or RC/RCP techniques.
- Understanding of multiple power domains and complex UPF/CPF definitions.
- Proficient in scripting for automation (Perl, Tcl).
- Strong problem-solving and ASIC development/debugging skills; experience with CPU micro-architecture and critical path optimization.
- Knowledge of place-and-route tools and complete ASIC flow including low-power, performance and area optimization.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field. The posting specifies degree-dependent experience: Bachelor's +4 years, Master's +3 years, PhD +2 years. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
