Job Title

CPU RTL Design - Sr Staff

Role Summary

Senior hardware engineer responsible for RTL and hardware design, verification, bring-up and optimization of CPU and related electronic systems. Works on complex digital/analog/RF/FPGA/DSP systems and leads technical aspects of design, validation, and production bring-up.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams (design, verification, validation, software, architecture) to meet performance, power, area, and reliability targets for advanced process-node products.

Experience Level

Senior - typically a candidate with multiple years of hardware engineering experience. Qualcomm's minimum guidance ties experience to degree level (see Education Requirements); many hires have 8+ years and preferred candidates have 12+ years.

Responsibilities

The role leads and executes complex hardware design and verification tasks and influences cross-team technical decisions.

  • Plan, design, optimize, verify, and test CPU RTL and related electronic systems.
  • Lead implementation of advanced design rules, processes, and test solutions for hardware and integrated circuits.
  • Perform complex simulations and analyses; optimize designs for power, performance, and area.
  • Collaborate with design, verification, validation, software, and architecture teams to integrate new requirements and test solutions.
  • Evaluate and develop manufacturing and bring-up solutions to improve yield, test time, and quality.
  • Characterize reliability of materials and processes; drive automation and optimization to increase productivity.
  • Advise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to other engineers; review technical work and documentation.
  • Produce and review detailed technical documentation for complex hardware projects.

Requirements

Core technical and professional requirements for the role. Degree-specific requirements are listed under Education Requirements below.

  • Extensive hardware engineering experience with CPU or SoC hardware development; proven ability to work independently and lead technical efforts.
  • Experience in circuit/logic design and validation (digital, analog, or RF) - typically multiple years of hands-on work.
  • Experience using schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware design and measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools, etc.).
  • Experience with FPGA, DSP systems, test systems, and production bring-up activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate manufacturability and improve yield and test processes.
  • Technical leadership experience (mentoring, influencing design decisions, or leading projects).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare and review technical documentation and present complex information.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications tie degree level to required years of experience: a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with approximately 6+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR a Master's in those fields with ~5+ years; OR a PhD in those fields with ~4+ years. Preferred: advanced degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Electronics Engineering. The posting allows equivalent related work experience in lieu of degree where noted.
