CPU RTL Design Engineer (Senior/Staff) - Cambridge, UK
QualcommJob Title
CPU RTL Design Engineer (Senior/Staff) β Cambridge, UK
Role Summary
Develop CPU micro-architecture and RTL for high-performance, low-power ASIC products. Work with chip architects, verification, modeling and physical design teams to define microarchitecture, produce RTL, and validate performance against product targets.
Located in Cambridge within the ASICS Engineering group; role focuses on microarchitecture exploration, RTL ownership and cross-functional delivery.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical experience guidance: 4+ years ASIC design/verification/integration with a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years with a Master's, or 2+ years with a PhD; equivalent practical experience considered.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Explore performance strategies with CPU modeling and propose microarchitectural trade-offs.
- Develop and specify microarchitecture from early high-level exploration through detailed RTL specification.
- Implement, assess and refine RTL to meet power, performance, area and timing goals.
- Support functional and performance verification activities.
- Collaborate with multi-functional engineering teams on timing, area, reliability, testability and power aspects of design delivery.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Deep knowledge of CPU microarchitecture (instruction fetch/decode, branch prediction, scheduling, register renaming, out-of-order execution, integer/FPU execution, load/store, prefetching, caches and memory subsystems).
- Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL and experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools.
- Solid logic design skills with understanding of timing and power implications.
- Familiarity with low-power microarchitecture techniques and high-performance CPU techniques and trade-offs.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python for automation and analysis.
- Experience in ASIC design, verification, validation or integration.
Nice-to-have: RTL performance verification experience, familiarity with physical design constraints, and performance modeling experience.
Education Requirements
Preferred: Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field. The posting specifies degree-based experience guidance: Bachelor's +4 years, Master's +3 years, PhD +2 years; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
