CPU RTL Design Engineer — Senior / Lead / Staff
QualcommJob Title
CPU RTL Design Engineer — Senior / Lead / Staff
Role Summary
Develop CPU microarchitecture and RTL for high-performance, low-power processors. Work with chip architects, verification, modeling and physical-design teams to define architecture, implement RTL, and deliver silicon-quality designs that meet power, performance, area, and timing targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience guidance per Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's +4 years, Master's +3 years, PhD +2 years of hardware engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Explore high-performance CPU strategies with the CPU modeling team.
- Develop microarchitecture concepts and produce detailed specifications from early-stage exploration.
- Own RTL development, assessment and refinement to meet PPA (power, performance, area) and timing goals.
- Support functional and performance verification efforts to validate design behavior and performance targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and validate physical design aspects such as timing, area, reliability and testability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong knowledge of microprocessor architecture: instruction fetch/decode, branch prediction, scheduling and register renaming, out-of-order execution, execution pipelines, prefetching, cache and memory subsystems.
- Experience with RTL languages (Verilog and/or VHDL) and with simulators and waveform-debugging tools.
- Solid understanding of logic design principles and implications for timing and power.
- Familiarity with low-power microarchitecture techniques and high-performance trade-offs.
- Experience in performance verification and validating that RTL meets performance goals.
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python or Perl for automation and analysis.
Education Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR Master’s in those fields plus 3+ years; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years. Degrees in related technical fields are acceptable.
