CPU Micro-architect/RTL Designer (Multiple Locations)
QualcommJob Title
CPU Micro-architect/RTL Designer (Multiple Locations)
Role Summary
Design and develop CPU microarchitecture and RTL for high-performance, low-power devices. Work with chip architects, CPU modeling, verification, and physical design teams to define architecture, implement RTL, and validate performance and implementation targets.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting indicates hires with a broad range of experience; past hires include candidates from roughly 2 to 8+ years of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture exploration, RTL development, and supporting verification and delivery.
- Explore performance strategies in collaboration with CPU modeling teams.
- Drive microarchitecture research and produce detailed architectural specifications.
- Own RTL development, assessment, and refinement to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
- Support functional verification efforts and coordinate with verification teams on strategy execution.
- Support performance verification to confirm RTL meets performance targets.
- Collaborate with multifunctional teams to ensure design delivery across timing, area, reliability, testability, and power considerations.
Requirements
No mandatory "minimum qualifications" were explicitly listed; the posting provides preferred qualifications which indicate the skills and experience sought.
- Preferred / desired: Deep knowledge of microprocessor architecture (fetch/decode, branch prediction, scheduling, renaming, out-of-order execution, integer/floating point pipelines, load/store, prefetching, caches and memory subsystems).
- Experience with Verilog and/or VHDL, simulators, and waveform debugging tools.
- Understanding of logic design principles and timing/power trade-offs.
- Familiarity with low-power microarchitecture techniques and high-performance microarchitecture trade-offs.
- Experience using scripting languages such as Python or Perl for automation and analysis.
