CPU Low Power RTL Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
CPU Low Power RTL Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the CPU engineering team to develop low-power, high-performance CPU RTL and power intent for SoC products. The role involves early involvement in microarchitecture definition, translating architecture into RTL, and collaborating with architects and cross-functional teams through implementation and validation.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical background: MS in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of RTL experience; practical RTL experience and power-aware design experience expected.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include specification, RTL development, and validation of power-aware CPU designs.
- Develop and specify power architecture from early high-level exploration through detailed micro-architectural specification.
- Design and own power intent in UPF and corresponding RTL; develop, assess, and refine UPF to match RTL design.
- Implement and validate power-aware RTL designs, coordinating with cross-functional teams from RTL through physical implementation.
Requirements
Core technical must-haves and useful additional skills.
- Must-have: Proficiency in Verilog and/or SystemVerilog and practical RTL design experience.
- Must-have: Experience with simulation and waveform debugging tools.
- Must-have: Experience with power intent (UPF) and familiarity with Conformal Low Power analysis or equivalent tools.
- Must-have: Strong knowledge of digital logic design and understanding of timing and power implications.
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of low-power microarchitecture techniques and high-performance CPU microarchitecture trade-offs.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with how RTL maps to physical implementation with power intent.
- Nice-to-have: Scripting experience (Perl, Python) for automation and analysis.
Education Requirements
Preferred: MS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Acceptable: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (the posting specifies a BS with 3+ years of RTL experience as an alternative to an MS).
