Job Title

CPU Engineering Intern (FY27, 6 months)

Role Summary

Internship on Qualcomm's Snapdragon CPU engineering team in Cork, Ireland. Work areas include advanced CPU microarchitecture RTL design, design verification, and post-silicon CPU power and performance validation.

Interns will collaborate with architecture, software, measurement and SoC teams across Qualcomm and gain hands-on experience developing ASICs and SoCs on advanced CMOS nodes. Internships may begin as early as January 2027 and run for approximately six months.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Candidates should be current students who have completed at least the second year of a bachelor’s degree; ideal candidates may be in the second year of a master’s program.

Responsibilities

Typical intern responsibilities include supporting design, verification, and validation tasks under mentor guidance:

  • Assist with RTL design and microarchitecture tasks for CPU cores.
  • Develop and run verification tests using SystemVerilog and verification methodologies.
  • Perform scripting and tool-driven automation (Python, Tcl, shell, Perl as needed).
  • Support post-silicon power and performance measurements and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (architecture, software, SoC) and document results.
  • Follow company security and confidentiality procedures when handling proprietary information.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes for successful performance in the internship (degree details are listed under Education Requirements).

  • Fundamental knowledge of computer architecture and digital design concepts.
  • Experience or coursework in RTL coding and simulation (Verilog) and verification (SystemVerilog).
  • Programming skills in C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python; familiarity with Tcl/Perl/shell scripting is beneficial.
  • Understanding of low-power design principles and CPU power/performance trade-offs.
  • Familiarity with ARM or RISC-V processor architectures and industry benchmarks.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with common computer tools (Windows, Office, Visio) and willingness to learn internal tool flows.
  • Prior work experience is not required; candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to complete assigned tasks.

Education Requirements

Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field. Relevant coursework includes computer architecture, embedded systems, RTL design and verification, low-power VLSI, digital integrated circuits, signals and systems, and digital signal processing. Candidates must have completed at least the second year of a Bachelor's degree; ideally in the second year of a Master's degree. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
