CPU Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and integrate RISC-based CPU components for cellular modem SoCs, focusing on high performance, low power, and small silicon area. The role works across multi-national teams and on leading-edge process nodes.
Experience Level
Mid-level — expects at least 3 years of CPU-related architect/RTL/verification/implementation experience; more experienced candidates (5+ years) are preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include CPU design, integration, and exploration of processor technologies for 5G applications.
- Perform CPU development and integration for the CPU subsystem.
- Define micro-architecture and implement RISC-based CPU designs (RTL/architecture).
- Collaborate with multi-site engineering teams across process nodes.
- Support design-for-silicon activities including RTL integration, verification handoff, and debug.
- Evaluate and adopt processor technologies relevant to 5G applications.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and experience, followed by useful additional qualifications.
- Must-have: Minimum 3 years CPU-related architecture/RTL/verification/implementation design experience.
- Must-have: Practical knowledge of common RISC CPU architectures and ability to carry a design concept to successful silicon.
- Nice-to-have: 5+ years of CPU architecture/RTL/verification/implementation experience.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with digital chip design flow: RTL integration, simulation, static timing analysis (STA), clock tree synthesis, and low-power techniques.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with SMT, SMP, snoop-based multi-processor architectures, and familiarity with ARM/MIPS or RISC-V cores.
- Nice-to-have: Cross-site collaboration experience and experience with foundry bring-up, post-silicon validation, FPGA prototyping, DVT, or SLT debug.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering is required. A PhD in EE/CS/CE is a plus.
