Job Title

CPU DFT Engineer

Role Summary

DFT engineer responsible for defining, verifying, and implementing Design-for-Test (DFT) and Design-for-Debug (DFD) architecture and test plans for large mixed-signal and digital SoC designs. Collaborates with architects, RTL designers, implementation engineers and test teams to ensure DFT requirements are met and testability/debug visibility is achieved on a new chip architecture.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically 3–7 years of relevant engineering experience. Posting references range from 3+ years in DFT/test to 5+ years overall ASIC experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Create or oversee creation of test vectors and test patterns.
  • Validate that DFT/DFD requirements are implemented and functioning.
  • Work with designers to increase test coverage, observability and debug flexibility.
  • Verify post-place-and-route designs meet DFT requirements.
  • Collaborate with test teams and perform test runs when required.
  • Support SOC-level verification for DFT on large designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Strong fundamentals in digital ASIC design; practical experience with Verilog or VHDL.
  • Hands-on experience with ASIC test, DFT, and debug (3+ years in test/DFT referenced).
  • Experience with Mentor Tessent tools or equivalent commercial test tools.
  • Experience defining and implementing SoC-level verification strategies on large designs.
  • Scripting skills: TCL and one or more of Perl, Python, or Shell scripting.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with test compression software, scan compression, MBIST/LBIST, ATPG, JTAG, logic diagnosis, and yield learning.
  • Familiarity with IEEE 1500 and other DFT standards for IP/test wrappers.
  • Strong ownership and self-driven approach to problem solving.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Master's or PhD in those fields also acceptable; postings include combinations of degree and relevant years of experience (e.g., BS + experience, MS + reduced experience). Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
