CPU Design Verification - Principal Engineer
QualcommJob Title
CPU Design Verification - Principal Engineer
Role Summary
Lead verification of high-performance, low-power CPU designs within the SoC CPU team. Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, software, emulation, and silicon teams to develop and execute verification plans that validate power management, functionality, and system use cases.
Experience Level
Senior - experience guidance provided by the posting varies by degree: Bachelor's +8 years, Master's +7 years, PhD +6 years (the posting also contains a line referencing BE/BTech with 4+ years). Expect senior-level delivery and leadership in verification on complex CPU projects.
Responsibilities
Primary verification and debug responsibilities for CPU power and system validation.
- Plan and execute verification for power management: boot, reset, clock gating, power gating, voltage/frequency management, limit management, and throttling.
- Develop comprehensive test plans with CPU design and verification teams and validate system-level use cases with architects and software teams.
- Implement simulation- and formal-based verification: write checkers, assertions, and develop stimulus.
- Verify power intent using UPF and other power-intent methodologies.
- Enable and run verification on emulation and FPGA platforms; support bring-up on silicon as needed.
- Debug and triage failures across simulation, emulation, and silicon platforms.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: Proven experience in power management verification for CPUs or CPU-based SoCs, including clock/power gating, DVFS/DCVS, throttling, and reliability features.
- Must-have: RTL verification skills using SystemVerilog/Verilog, assertions, and checker development; experience with simulation and formal methods.
- Must-have: Strong firmware/software skills: assembly and C for embedded firmware; C/C++ and scripting for testbench and automation.
- Must-have: Experience with emulation/FPGAs and silicon bring-up debug.
- Nice-to-have: Good understanding of CPU microarchitecture, digital logic design, and DFT/structural debug (JTAG, IEEE1500, MBIST, scan/memory dump).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with advanced verification techniques (formal, assertions) and system-level validation.
Education Requirements
Posting requests a technical degree or equivalent experience: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related fields (posting maps Bachelor's +8 years, Master's +7 years, PhD +6 years of relevant experience). The posting also references BE/BTech in CS/EE with 4+ years. Equivalent practical experience is accepted where indicated.
