CPU Design Verification Engineer, Staff/Sr Staff (RISC-V)
QualcommJob Title
CPU Design Verification Engineer, Staff/Sr Staff (RISC-V)
Role Summary
Work on performance verification for custom, server-class CPU cores using RISC-V. Collaborate with CPU design and performance teams to develop tests, validate features, and measure performance across simulation and emulation platforms.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff / Sr Staff). The posting cites a broad experience range; see Education Requirements for degree-linked minimum experience. Candidates with demonstrated CPU verification and performance analysis expertise are preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this role include:
- Define, develop and run performance tests and benchmarks for CPU cores and subsystems.
- Validate microarchitecture features (fetch, decode, branch prediction, renaming, execute units, SIMD, load/store, MMU, caches, retire) and measure their performance impact.
- Analyze performance across multiple levels of simulation and emulation and report findings to design and performance teams.
- Develop and maintain performance analysis tools and scripts.
- Work closely with RTL designers and performance engineers to create test cases and validate new features under various workloads and conditions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are noted separately.
- Strong knowledge of CPU architecture and microarchitecture, including one or more of the listed pipeline stages.
- Familiarity with the RISC-V ISA and relevant core/subsystem microarchitecture.
- Experience with performance verification, benchmarking, and workload characterization.
- Hands-on experience with RTL/RTL-simulation environments and ASIC verification/validation/integration workflows.
- Proficient in Verilog and system-level languages such as C and C++.
- Proficient scripting skills (Python, Perl or similar) for test automation and analysis.
- Ability to analyze complex performance problems and propose validated solutions.
- Experience with simulation and emulation platforms for performance measurement.
Education Requirements
The posting requests a degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field: Bachelor’s (with ~2+ years of ASIC/verification experience), Master’s (with ~1+ year), or PhD (no minimum years specified). Preferred specific degrees include MS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The posting also states equivalent practical experience will be considered.
