CPU Design Verification Engineer, Staff
QualcommJob Title
CPU Design Verification Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Work with CPU and SoC architects in the ASICS Engineering team to validate CPU and system-level micro-architectures. Define and implement verification methodology, test plans, and environments to ensure blocks and subsystems are launch-ready.
Based in Cork, Ireland; responsible for verification, debug, and progress reporting on CPU design projects.
Experience Level
Senior. The role expects multiple years of ASIC design and verification experience (see Education Requirements for the minimum years tied to degree level).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with CPU and SoC architects to translate requirements into verification objectives.
- Develop detailed test and coverage plans based on architecture and micro-architecture.
- Design and implement scalable, portable verification methodology and environments (stimulus, checkers, assertions, trackers, coverage).
- Create verification plans and testbenches for assigned functional domains.
- Execute regressions, perform design and DV environment bring-up, debug failures and enable features.
- Track and report verification progress using metrics such as bug counts and coverage.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Deep knowledge of microprocessor verification and micro-architectures (cache coherence, memory ordering/consistency, prefetching, branch prediction, renaming, speculative execution, address translation/MMU).
- Experience with Random Instruction Sequencing (RIS) and block-to-chip level verification for correctness.
- Experience leading small teams of verification engineers.
- Experience writing test plans, portable testbenches, transactors, and assembly test code.
- Familiarity with verification tools and methodologies: simulators, coverage collection, gate-level simulation, waveform viewers, and formal proof tools.
- Ability to develop and own verification for a block or unit and work independently.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with formal methods, assertions, and silicon bring-up.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's degree with 3+ years; OR PhD with 2+ years. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
