Job Title
CPU Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Intel Core RTL Design team to design and implement CPU core RTL features for next-generation processors. The role focuses on microarchitectural specification, RTL implementation, and cross-team collaboration to meet power, performance, area, and timing (PPA) targets.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 5β6+ years of professional RTL/design experience as indicated in the qualifications.
Responsibilities
The engineer will translate feature specifications into RTL and drive design decisions across implementation and verification.
- Understand feature specifications from architects and implement Core RTL features independently.
- Develop microarchitectural specifications and internal design documentation.
- Optimize RTL for power, performance, area, and timing using design methodologies, tools, and AI-enabled techniques.
- Collaborate with Validation to review verification plans and ensure correct feature coverage.
- Work with Back-End teams to evaluate area, timing, and power trade-offs for physical implementation.
- Lead design/feature forums, analyze design options, and provide data-driven recommendations to management.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; listed concisely.
- 5β6+ years of professional RTL design experience (see Experience Level and Education Requirements for degree guidance).
- Strong digital design fundamentals and familiarity with microarchitecture concepts including integer and floating-point datapaths.
- Proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog and experience with simulation and debug tools such as Verdi.
- Experience with static verification tools and flows (Lint, CDC, RDC, UPF, or equivalent).
- Domain experience in one or more areas: execution units (Integer/FP), cache, power management, or memory subsystems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective written and verbal communication.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-site collaborative environment.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering with 5+ years of experience, or Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering with 6+ years of experience. The posting specifies degree-based experience thresholds rather than alternative certification requirements.
