Job Title
CPU Design Architect / Principal Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design high-performance, low-power CPU controllers for cellular modems and lead CPU development and integration for a MIPS CPU subsystem. Work with multi-national teams on leading-edge process nodes to research CPU architecture directions and translate architectural ideas into RTL and silicon.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 5 years of CPU-related architecture/RTL/verification/implementation experience; 8+ years preferred.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include architecture definition, RTL integration, verification and performance analysis:
- Lead CPU development and RTL integration for MIPS CPU subsystems.
- Research and evaluate new CPU architecture directions and performance techniques.
- Analyze workloads, identify bottlenecks, and define architecture and microarchitecture trade-offs.
- Provide architecture specifications and collaborate with modeling, implementation, and silicon teams.
- Participate in digital design flow activities including simulation, static timing analysis (STA), synthesis support, and post-silicon debugging.
- Collaborate across geographically distributed engineering teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by nice-to-have items.
- At least 5 years of CPU-related architecture, RTL, verification, or implementation experience.
- Practical knowledge of common RISC CPU architectures.
- Familiarity with digital chip design flow: RTL integration, simulation and STA.
- Understanding of high-performance CPU microarchitecture techniques and trade-offs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to validate and defend design ideas with data.
- Nice-to-have: 8+ years of CPU design experience; SMP and snoop-based multi-processor familiarity; experience with synthesis, power analysis, post-silicon debugging, FPGA/DVT/SLT debug; experience with modeling, design verification (DV) and operating system interactions; cross-site collaboration experience; foundry and post-silicon exposure.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering required. PhD in these fields preferred. No explicit equivalent-experience language was provided.
