CPU Cores Global Performance Lead
Role Summary
Lead the CPU performance team responsible for end-to-end performance analysis and optimization across AMD CPU core roadmaps. Manage a geographically distributed, senior engineering team and partner closely with Core Architecture and RTL groups to deliver high-performance CPU cores that meet program objectives.
Experience Level
Senior. Role expects substantial experience leading large, experienced engineering teams (examples include teams of 20+ engineers) and driving measurable CPU performance improvements.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of CPU core performance delivery and team leadership.
- Own performance analysis and optimization across AMD CPU cores from early investigation through post-silicon validation.
- Partner with Core Architecture and RTL teams to define and meet performance targets.
- Manage performance modeling, analysis, and correlation requirements for the CPU roadmap.
- Set priorities, measure progress, and take action to keep projects on schedule and budget.
- Represent the Performance Team in program reviews and report regular progress toward goals.
- Communicate program, organization, and company updates to the team and stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred professional experience, technical skills, and eligibility notes.
- Must-have: Proven experience managing significant CPU performance analysis and optimization efforts and leading large, experienced teams.
- Must-have: Deep working knowledge across CPU performance activities: early investigation, architecture, performance modeling, analysis/correlation, and post-silicon validation.
- Must-have: Strong organizational, stakeholder management, and written/verbal communication skills; ability to present complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Must-have: Demonstrated ability to influence senior decision-making and represent the organization in high-stakes forums.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with modern ISAs (example: x86-64, Armv8/Armv9, or RISC-V) in performance analysis or optimization contexts.
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: Technical background in performance modeling, architecture, correlation, or post-silicon performance validation.
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: Knowledge of traditional CPU microarchitectural units (branch prediction, fetch/decode, execution, scheduler, FP, load/store) and system-level components (memory controller, IO).
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: Formal leadership development, coaching, or mentorship experience.
- Location / Authorization: Primary location Austin, TX; other AMD locations may be options. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Education Requirements
BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred.
