Job Title

CPU Core Logic Designer

Role Summary

Designs CPU logic at the RTL level for a CPU core intended as IP for SoC integration. Responsible for RTL coding, logic optimization for power/performance/area/timing, and collaboration with architecture, verification, and physical implementation teams.

Works with cross-functional teams and supports SoC customers to ensure high-quality integration of the CPU block.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” typically 1–3 years of relevant experience in hardware/RTL design and verification.

Responsibilities

Primary duties focus on RTL design, verification support, and documentation.

  • Develop RTL (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL) and simulation for CPU features, functional units, and IP blocks.
  • Participate in defining architecture and microarchitecture features and document micro-architectural specs.
  • Optimize logic to meet power, performance, area, and timing targets for physical implementation.
  • Review verification plans, debug failing RTL tests, and implement corrective measures to ensure feature correctness.
  • Support SoC integration and customers to ensure correct CPU block integration.
  • Collaborate with architecture, spec development, design, formal, and verification teams.

Requirements

Applicants must show practical RTL/hardware design skills and software tooling proficiency. See Education Requirements for degree expectations.

  • Must-have:
    • Practical experience with SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL and simulators (e.g., VCS) for RTL/front-end design.
    • Hands-on RTL coding, logic design, and front-end verification/debug experience.
    • Understanding of computer architecture and microarchitecture.
    • Proficiency with programming/scripting languages used for tooling (e.g., C, C++, Python, Perl, Java).
    • Knowledge of energy-efficient/low-power logic design techniques and high-frequency optimization.
  • Nice-to-have:
    • Familiarity with Intel Architecture (x86) and assembly language.
    • Experience with high-speed datapath/circuit design and timing convergence.
    • Proven experience working with cross-functional teams and SoC integration projects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science with 2+ years' relevant experience, or a Master's in those fields with 1+ year experience. Equivalent industry experience, internships, or relevant coursework may satisfy this requirement.
