Job Title

CPU Circuit Memory Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the CPU Circuit Technology team to design and deliver embedded memories (SRAMs, multi-ported register files, ROMs), custom memories, caches, and related digital circuits for Intel CPUs and SoCs. The role partners with domain experts to drive circuit innovation across advanced CMOS process technologies.

This is a fast-paced, high-performance/low-power CPU design environment focused on power, performance and area (PPA) optimization and memory IP development.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience expectations per degree: Bachelor's with approximately 6+ years, Master's with approximately 5+ years, PhD with approximately 2+ years of industry experience.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, characterize, and optimize memory circuits and related digital blocks to meet PPA targets. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design full-custom and compiler-based SRAMs, ROMs, custom memories, and large multi-ported register files.
  • Design and analyze caches and critical paths; implement custom blocks to meet strict PPA constraints.
  • Perform memory characterization, simulations, and path-finding activities for PPA optimization.
  • Design memory bit-cells, complex periphery ICs, and contribute to layout trade-off decisions.
  • Develop memory array/IP, drive circuit innovation, and create automation to improve flows.
  • Define methodology, ensure technical readiness, and execute project schedules.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and role requirements:

  • Proficiency in CMOS circuit design, digital logic optimization, and power/performance/area trade-offs.
  • Strong VLSI circuit design expertise and familiarity with relevant design methodologies.
  • Experience with memory circuit design, cache architecture, critical path simulation, and PPA optimization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize and work in dynamic environments.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and leverage domain experts.
  • Ability to pass an extended background investigation for a Position of Trust.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in low-power implementation techniques and memory layout trade-offs.
  • Familiarity with EBB design tools, flows, and signal integrity analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a STEM-related field (with ~6+ years' experience); or Master's degree (with ~5+ years' experience); or PhD (with ~2+ years' experience). The posting lists degree-based minimum experience levels as the qualification standard.
