Job Title

CPU Circuit Memory Design Engineer

Role Summary

The CPU Circuit Technology team seeks an experienced memory design engineer to develop full-custom and compiler-based SRAMs, large signal arrays (multi-ported register files), ROMs, custom memories, digital circuits and caches for Intel CPUs and SoCs.

The role partners with domain experts across technology development to deliver memory IP, drive circuit innovation, and optimize power, performance, and area on advanced CMOS process technologies.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Hiring targets vary by degree (see Education Requirements), and candidates should have multiple years of relevant memory/IP design experience and proven delivery in CPU or SoC circuit design projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on memory circuit and cache design, simulation, and optimization across PPA metrics and design flows.

  • Design and develop full-custom and compiler-based SRAMs, ROMs, custom memories, large signal arrays (multi-ported register files), and caches for CPU/SoC use.
  • Perform memory and critical-path simulations, characterization, and PPA optimization.
  • Design memory bit-cells, complex periphery circuits, and related IC layout/automation tasks.
  • Execute memory path-finding, circuit innovation, and signal integrity analysis where required.
  • Define and improve memory/IP design methodologies and flows; collaborate with cross-functional technology teams.
  • Deliver project schedules and technical readiness for production deliverables.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and preferred skills for successful candidates.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in CMOS circuit design, digital logic optimization, and trade-offs for power, performance, and area.
  • Must-have: Expertise in VLSI circuits and established design methodologies.
  • Must-have: Practical experience designing SRAMs, caches, ROMs, register files, memory periphery, or equivalent memory IPs.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Must-have: Ability to consent to and pass an extended background investigation (Position of Trust requirement).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with low-power implementation techniques and memory design optimization.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with circuit/layout trade-offs, EBB design tools, flows, and automation for memory design.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with signal integrity analysis and memory design automation.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications stated: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a STEM-related field with 6+ years of experience; or Master's degree with 5+ years of experience; or PhD with 2+ years of experience. The posting presents these degree options as alternatives to the stated experience levels.
