Job Title

CPU Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and optimize custom digital and memory circuits for CPU and cache subsystems. Work on circuit schematic entry, simulation, analysis, and verification while collaborating with architecture, layout, verification, and validation teams to meet performance, power, area, timing, and manufacturability targets.

Experience Level

Entry-level (0–3 years). Typical background: recent college graduate or early-career engineer with 1+ year industry experience or accelerated master's experience as specified below.

Responsibilities

Primary technical responsibilities and cross-functional collaboration areas:

  • Design, develop, and optimize custom digital circuits for CPU and memory/cache subsystems.
  • Perform schematic entry, circuit simulation, analysis, and block-level verification.
  • Analyze and optimize designs for power, performance, area (PPA), timing, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with CPU architecture, physical/layout, verification, and validation teams to deliver robust solutions.
  • Support design-for-test (DFT), memory test methodologies, and component characterization.
  • Investigate and resolve circuit design and performance issues during development.
  • Contribute to automation, tool development, and methodology improvements.
  • Present technical findings and project updates to team members and stakeholders.

  • Complementary MOS (CMOS) circuit design experience.
  • Digital logic design and optimization experience.
  • Experience with circuit trade-offs for power, performance, and area.
  • Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) design exposure.
  • Memory design experience (cache/memory structures).
  • Preferred: low-power implementation techniques.
  • Behavioral: strong analytical/problem-solving skills, teamwork, attention to detail, communication, initiative, and ownership.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another STEM field with 1+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in a related field with at least a short period of educational or work experience as described by the posting. Qualifications may be met through a combination of industry experience, internships, coursework, or research.
