CPU Circuit Design Engineer — Intel

Job Title

CPU Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop custom digital circuits for CPU cores, including memories and caches, focusing on floorplanning, schematic entry, simulation, verification, and optimization for power, performance, area, timing, and yield.

This role sits within Intel's Silicon Engineering Group and supports high-speed custom circuit and memory-compiler designs for client, server, and networking processor products.

Experience Level

Entry-level — approximately 1+ years of relevant experience (coursework or internship experience is counted).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, verification, optimization, test strategy, and cross-functional coordination for CPU circuit blocks and memory instances.

  • Design custom digital circuits for CPU blocks, memories, and caches; perform schematic entry and circuit-level simulation.
  • Create floorplans and verify functionality to meet power, performance, area, timing, and yield targets.
  • Develop block-level DFT models and memory test tools; improve and automate design flows and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with CPU architecture, layout, and cross-functional teams to resolve design issues and improve robustness.
  • Characterize memory instances and memory compilers; drive optimizations to reduce leakage and improve PPA.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills. Coursework and internships count toward experience.

Must-have:

  • At least 1 year of experience with CMOS circuit design.
  • Experience with digital logic design and logic optimization.
  • Understanding of circuit design trade-offs for power, performance, and area (PPA).
  • Memory design experience (including caches and memory compilers).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with CPU block-level design flows, DFT, and automation of design/verification flows.
  • Experience with characterization of memory instances and compiler flows.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another STEM-related field — OR — Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another STEM-related field. (The posting allows coursework/internship experience to count toward experience requirements.)
