Job Title

CPU Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the CPU circuit design and verification team in the Silicon and Platform Engineering Group. Responsible for driving performance verification methodology, circuit and timing quality signoff, and early process-node evaluation for CPU products.

The role spans pre-silicon performance and timing analysis and grows to include pre-to-post-silicon correlation and debug of circuit marginality.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical candidates have multiple years of CPU circuit or backend design experience (see Requirements for specifics).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive performance verification (PV) methodology and circuit/timing quality signoff for the CPU team.
  • Evaluate new process nodes via circuit simulations and block-scaling methods; recommend CPU frequency targets considering u-architectural growth.
  • Make trade-offs between performance, power, area and implementation effort.
  • Work with RTL, circuit and system domains to converge on timing targets without compromising quality or schedule.
  • Own pre-to-post-silicon voltage/frequency (VF) correlation and lead debug of post-silicon circuit marginality findings.
  • Demonstrate design ownership and execute against schedules in advanced process technologies.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical skills and experience.

  • Must-have: 5+ years of CPU circuit or backend design experience.
  • Must-have: 5+ years of circuit design and static timing analysis (STA) experience.
  • Must-have: Proven track record of execution and design ownership in advanced process technologies.
  • Must-have: Ability to converge with RTL/circuit/system teams to meet timing targets.
  • Preferred: Deep circuit design knowledge and ability to make PPA tradeoffs.
  • Preferred: In-depth STA knowledge and circuit quality signoff experience for tape-in.
  • Preferred: Experience guiding post-silicon debug of circuit marginality.
  • Preferred: Experience leading small technical teams (roughly 2–3 engineers) and balancing hands-on contribution with delegation.
  • Preferred: Comfortable working with incomplete or ambiguous requirements and driving tasks to closure; strong teamwork and communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 6+ years, or Master's degree plus 4+ years in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (as listed in the posting).
