CPU Architecture Performance Engineer, Senior to Staff Level
QualcommJob Title
CPU Architecture Performance Engineer, Senior to Staff Level
Role Summary
Join the ASICs engineering team to verify and validate performance for custom mobile CPU designs. The role focuses on ensuring RTL implementations meet modeled performance targets and on developing test cases and benchmarks to validate new CPU features.
Experience Level
Senior-level (title: Senior to Staff). Typical experience expectations per qualifications: 3+ years (Master's) or 4+ years (Bachelor's) in relevant ASIC/CPU roles; senior candidates often have 4+ years.
Responsibilities
Core day-to-day responsibilities include verification, validation, and collaboration with design teams to drive performance results.
- Verify CPU performance features by comparing RTL results to performance models and troubleshoot discrepancies.
- Develop, run, and analyze performance test cases and benchmark workloads.
- Collaborate with CPU design and performance teams to validate new microarchitectural features.
- Analyze and validate microarchitecture blocks such as fetch, decode, branch prediction, renaming, execution units, SIMD, load/store, MMU, caches, and retire.
- Work in RTL simulation and performance modeling environments to reproduce and diagnose issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful candidates.
- Strong knowledge of CPU architecture and microarchitecture.
- Practical experience with RTL simulation environments and performance modeling.
- Experience in ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration.
- Proficiency in Verilog, C, C++ and scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to validate and defend performance findings with data.
- Familiarity with common performance benchmarks and workload characterization.
Education Requirements
One of the following: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years relevant ASIC/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years relevant experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field with 2+ years relevant experience.
