Job Title

CPU Architect, Load-Store

Role Summary

Join the processor architecture team to design, analyze, and optimize the CPU load-store unit for a high-performance out-of-order RISC-V CPU. Work with hardware and software engineers to improve memory subsystem performance, power, and area.

Remote role based in the United States. The position involves architecture, microarchitecture, simulation, and cross-team collaboration.

Experience Level

Mid-level (typical). The company will assess candidates across seniority during interviews and offers will align with the assessed level.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture and performance work on the load-store unit and related memory subsystems.

  • Drive architecture, microarchitecture, and optimization of the CPU load-store unit for a high-performance out-of-order RISC-V CPU.
  • Propose and evaluate new implementations to optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) for load/store paths.
  • Perform simulations, modeling, and performance analysis of CPU features and data prefetchers.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to optimize memory access patterns and overall system performance.
  • Document and present architectural decisions, trade-offs, and analysis results to stakeholders.
  • Stay current with industry trends in CPU architecture and the memory subsystem.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required or highly preferred.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of computer architecture fundamentals, including memory hierarchy, cache coherence, and data prefetching.
  • Must-have: Experience with performance modeling and simulation tools (e.g., Gem5, SimpleScalar, or similar).
  • Must-have: Basic practical knowledge of hardware description languages (Verilog, VHDL) and system-level programming in C/C++.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with performance profiling tools and benchmarking methodologies; ability to analyze complex system interactions.
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to parallel processing architectures, multi-core systems, and advanced prefetcher techniques.
  • Condition: Employment may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology; candidates may need U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or special authorization.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
