Computer Science Senior Engineer for CAD
QualcommJob Title
Computer Science Senior Engineer for CAD
Role Summary
Develop algorithms, tools, and flows for ASIC/VLSI CAD targeting advanced process nodes (3nm and below). Work on automated reasoning, optimization, and data-driven solutions within an interdisciplinary engineering team.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting's minimum qualifications reference degree-plus-experience combinations (see Education Requirements); otherwise the role expects demonstrated experience delivering production CAD software and advanced algorithmic solutions.
Responsibilities
Core duties include design and implementation of CAD algorithms and software to solve large-scale VLSI problems.
- Design and implement automated reasoning and optimization methods (AI, constraint programming, SAT, integer programming, metaheuristics).
- Develop CAD tools, flows, and internal applications for implementation and enabling technology at advanced nodes (3nm+).
- Apply graph algorithms and optimized data structures to large-scale design problems.
- Produce high-quality, maintainable software with version control, testing, CI/CD, and documentation.
- Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to translate electronic design requirements into tool capabilities.
- Analyze data and use data-driven methods to improve automation and decision-making in flows.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience.
- Deep knowledge of automated reasoning from AI and/or operations research.
- Strong understanding of graph theory algorithms and data structures.
- Proven ability to design and implement high-performance constraint reasoning methods.
- Excellent programming skills in Python (required).
- Experience developing high-quality software: version control, testing, CI/CD, and documentation.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills across interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work on large-scale problems with a data-driven mindset.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with C/C++ object-oriented programming.
- Experience with data science approaches and data visualization for large datasets.
- Background in synthesis or physical design flows and CAD tool development.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field (posting notes a bachelor's +2 years ASIC-related experience OR a master's +1 year OR a PhD). Preferred fields include computer science, applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, or closely related technical disciplines. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
