Job Title

Compute Platform Engineer, License Scheduling

Role Summary

Owner of license-scheduling policy and telemetry for NVIDIA's compute estate, focused on optimizing allocation, reducing waste, and supporting high-priority engineering projects during peak demand. Embedded in the Compute Platform team working with CAD, project leads, procurement, and operations to translate business priorities into robust scheduling configurations.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically requires 6+ years of relevant experience in EDA compute, HPC, or environments with contended licensed resources.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing and operating license scheduling policies, modeling demand, and delivering observability to guide procurement and allocation decisions.

  • Manage license scheduling policy across the estate: hierarchical project shares, shared vs non-shared distribution, and license-level preemption.
  • Model license demand against entitlements to generate evidence-based procurement recommendations.
  • Tune allocation policies to ensure reliable execution during tape-out crunches and other high-contention periods.
  • Build telemetry and reporting: feature-level checkout patterns, queue-time attribution, and metrics to identify and reduce waste.
  • Partner with CAD and project teams to convert business priorities into share configurations that scale under load.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • 6+ years working in EDA compute, HPC, or comparable environments with contended licensed resources.
  • Practical experience with a commercial license manager and troubleshooting checkout behavior.
  • Working knowledge of a batch scheduler and how license state interacts with job state.
  • Data proficiency in Python and SQL to analyze checkout logs and produce actionable insights.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with a dedicated license-scheduling layer and hierarchical project-share implementations.
  • Direct experience managing license allocation during tape-outs.
  • Familiarity with commercial EDA licensing structures and pricing.
  • Experience influencing license procurement using utilization and telemetry data.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
