Job Title

Component Engineer, Semiconductor Devices (Hybrid - Maynard, MA)

Role Summary

Work on the Component Quality & Technology team within Global Supplier Management to ensure the quality, reliability, and manufacturability of semiconductor components used in Cisco networking systems. Partner with design, manufacturing, operations, quality teams and suppliers to investigate failures, improve component performance, and drive supplier corrective actions.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on technical leadership, reliability assessment, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Lead root-cause investigations and failure analysis for semiconductor components and sub-systems.
  • Analyze field reliability data and identify failure signatures and trends using data analytics.
  • Assess vendor quality, manage supplier corrective actions, and support manufacturing readiness and DFM reviews.
  • Work with internal design and system teams on power sub-systems, clocking/timing, PCB attach, and system-level integration issues.
  • Translate technical findings into actionable recommendations for product strategy and manufacturing processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the supply chain through cross-functional collaboration and supplier engagement.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, practical experience, and methods used on the job. Preferred items noted where applicable.

  • Minimum ~4 years of experience in electronic design, field application, or failure analysis (see Education Requirements for degree information).
  • Proven experience in analog and digital electronic design, circuit analysis, PCB layout, and hardware debugging.
  • Hands-on familiarity with power sub-systems, clocking/timing, discrete components, and PCB attach technologies.
  • Experience conducting failure analysis and applying formal problem-solving approaches (e.g., 8D, root-cause methods, FMEA, DOE).
  • Ability to assess reliability and implement corrective actions based on data-driven analysis.
  • Experience working with suppliers and driving corrective actions to resolve component and assembly quality issues.
  • Preferred: knowledge of thermal design impacts, manufacturing readiness, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree (or equivalent practical experience). Preferred: Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 5+ years of relevant experience. The posting allows equivalent degrees/experience language.
