Compiler Engineer (Machine Learning)
Role Summary
Design and implement compiler and runtime features for embedded machine-learning targets. Work in a small Agile software team to develop, debug and deliver components for Arm-based edge devices.
Deliver robust, high-performance software, take ownership of code areas, and collaborate with hardware and software engineers to optimise ML workloads on constrained devices.
Experience Level
Mid-level. No specific years of experience stated; practical experience in embedded systems and compilers is expected.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, test and debug compiler and runtime features for embedded ML targets.
- Develop and maintain embedded software (bare-metal, RTOS, drivers) and tooling using C, C++ or Python.
- Optimize ML models and code paths for performance, memory and power on target hardware.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, verification and product teams to integrate features into releases.
- Participate in Agile workflows, code review, CI/CD and automated testing; take ownership of assigned code areas.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Embedded software development experience (bare-metal, RTOS, drivers, I/O, memory, power, security).
- Proven ability to design, develop, test and debug complex software in C, C++ or Python.
- Knowledge of compiler fundamentals and understanding of hardware processing pipelines.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and effective communication within diverse teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with machine-learning applications and frameworks.
- Familiarity with version control, code review systems, CI/CD, Agile and TDD.
- Knowledge of computer architectures, digital signal processing or control systems.
Education Requirements
Technical degree or equivalent industry experience. The posting references degrees/fields such as Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Physics, and allows equivalent practical experience.
