Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Compiler Engineering team in Intel's Data Center Group to design, implement, and optimize compiler technologies for Intel CPU and GPU platforms. The team contributes to Intel's C/C++/DPC++ and Fortran compilers and to the LLVM ecosystem.
This position focuses on compiler feature development, optimization for CPU architectures, and collaboration with hardware architects, validation, and performance teams. The role is eligible for a hybrid work model based at the Gdansk site.
Experience Level
Mid-level - the posting expects approximately 4+ years of professional software development experience, particularly in C/C++ and performance engineering.
Responsibilities
Work on compiler components and performance optimization across the toolchain and product stack. Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, test, debug, and maintain compiler software components and features.
- Analyze real-world applications and benchmarks to find optimization opportunities and improve generated code performance for Intel CPUs.
- Perform functional, performance, and stress testing to ensure reliability and quality.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, validation, performance teams, and other engineering groups to enable new processor capabilities.
- Contribute to open-source compiler projects and industry standards related to compilers and tooling.
- Investigate and resolve complex software defects in compiler and low-level toolchain components.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- 4+ years professional experience developing software in C/C++.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and data structures.
- Experience optimizing software for CPU performance and performance engineering practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills; ability to work independently and drive technical solutions.
- Experience with assemblers, linkers, or low-level system software and familiarity with performance analysis or profiling tools.
Nice to have:
- Experience with LLVM-based compiler frameworks and compiler development (vectorization, code generation).
- Experience with parallel programming models (e.g., OpenMP) and vectorization technologies.
- Strong understanding of CPU architecture and compiler optimization techniques; experience with performance tuning.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Informatics, or a related technical discipline.
