Campus FPGA Engineer (Intern)

Role Summary

Join Jump Trading's FPGA team within Core Development to design ultra-low-latency FPGA systems for high-performance trading. Work on networking, real-time acceleration, and custom hardware for machine learning and algorithmic workloads.

Collaborate with a small team of hardware and systems engineers and researchers to prototype, develop, and validate FPGA-based solutions.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Suitable for current undergraduate or graduate students; typical experience: internship or early-stage hardware engineering (0–3 years).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and verify FPGA RTL for low-latency systems.
  • Develop and optimize firmware and low-level software to interface with FPGA components.
  • Work on networking and high-performance data paths, including real-time acceleration.
  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to prototype and integrate hardware solutions.
  • Debug, test, and document hardware designs and verification results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Experience with FPGA or hardware/systems design and development.
  • RTL experience in SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Previous internship experience in hardware or low-level software engineering.
  • Proficiency with C, C++, or Python for tooling and firmware.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across multiple technical areas.
  • Reliable and predictable availability for the internship term.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with RISC-V, lowRISC, CocoTB, Chisel, Bluespec, or OpenCores.
  • HLS or OpenCL; programming close to the metal (CPU/GPU/microcontrollers).
  • Linux kernel and driver development.
  • Experience with high-speed networking, telecommunications, or robotics.
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi/Arduino and strong coursework marks in computer architecture, digital design, or verification.

Education Requirements

Undergraduate or graduate concentration in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. (International students eligible for CPT/OPT encouraged; visa sponsorship available for full-time roles.)
