Job Title

Campus ASIC Engineer (Intern)

Role Summary

Join the ASIC team within Core Development to design and validate next-generation ultra-low-latency hardware used in high-performance trading systems. Work covers architecture, RTL design, verification, board bring-up and performance optimization for ASIC/FPGA-based acceleration.

This is an internship for students; the team is small and cross-functional, pairing interns with experienced engineers from ASIC, FPGA, semiconductor and networking backgrounds. Internships can be scheduled outside the summer term and placements are accepted.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for undergraduate or graduate students; previous hardware/low-level software internship experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities include contributing to design, verification and bring-up tasks under supervision. Work will focus on low-latency systems, networking and real-time acceleration.

  • Implement and verify RTL (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL) components
  • Develop and run tests, simulations, and validation for ASIC/FPGA designs
  • Collaborate on architecture, specification and board bring-up activities
  • Optimize designs for performance and latency in hardware and firmware
  • Document work, debug issues, and participate in team design reviews

Requirements

Must-have and strongly recommended skills for candidates.

  • Experience with ASIC, FPGA, or other hardware/systems design and development
  • Hands-on RTL experience (SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL)
  • Experience with C, C++ or Python for testbenches, tools, or low-level software
  • Previous internship or practical project experience in hardware or low-level software engineering
  • Reliable and predictable availability for the internship term
  • Ability to solve complex problems and integrate knowledge across technical areas

Nice-to-have (related experience):

  • lowRISC or RISC-V exposure
  • CocoTB or other verification frameworks
  • Linux kernel/driver programming
  • Static timing analysis, place-and-route tool experience
  • Experience with CPU/GPU/microprocessor programming, robotics, telecommunications, or high-speed networking
  • Strong grades in computer architecture, digital design, verification, or VLSI design courses

Education Requirements

Undergraduate or graduate concentration in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
