Camera VI Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Camera VI Engineer
Role Summary
The Camera Multimedia Validation & Integration (MMVI) engineer validates, debugs and integrates multimedia IP and subsystems in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments. The role focuses on camera/image pipelines, multimedia interfaces (MIPI, display), firmware/drivers and system bring-up for SoC platforms.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff level. The posting expects 6+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing validation activities across pre- and post-silicon stages, debugging complex hardware/firmware interactions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to productize multimedia subsystems.
- Analyze multimedia subsystem architecture, hardware and interface specifications to define validation goals.
- Create structured test plans, test cases, pass/fail criteria and coverage targets for multimedia-IP and subsystems.
- Perform pre-silicon testing using emulation, FPGA prototyping, simulation-acceleration or virtual platforms.
- Execute post-silicon bring-up, functional validation, characterization, regression testing and root-cause analysis on hardware platforms.
- Develop and maintain low-level software: firmware, device drivers, test applications, diagnostics and automation for hardware bring-up and validation.
- Validate camera/image pipelines, video encode/decode flows, computer-vision or multimedia AI functions at IP, subsystem and SoC levels.
- Validate and debug high-speed MIPI camera/display interfaces, timing, protocol behavior and interoperability.
- Use lab instrumentation (JTAG, trace tools, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers) for hardware/firmware debugging and failure analysis.
- Collaborate with design-verification, firmware and software teams to integrate DV vectors and enable drivers/APIs and OS-level integration.
- Document test methods, limitations, debugging procedures and validation results; provide engineering recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution. Preferred items are listed separately.
- 6+ years of experience in hardware, software, systems engineering, multimedia engineering, silicon validation/verification or embedded development.
- Proficient in C or C++ for embedded/low-level development and in Python or similar for test automation and data analysis.
- Experience across at least two multimedia domains (e.g., camera/image processing, video pipelines, display, computer vision, XR/AR, multimedia AI, GPU compute).
- Experience with pre-silicon and/or post-silicon validation, hardware bring-up, system integration and low-level debug.
- Working knowledge of SoC architecture: processors, memory, buses, interrupts, clocks/resets, power domains and peripheral interfaces.
- Familiarity with JTAG/in-circuit emulation, trace analysis, register-level debug and high-speed interface signal integrity concepts.
- Experience creating test plans, automation, regression suites and validation reports.
- Practical use of lab instrumentation: signal generators, analyzers, oscilloscopes, high-bandwidth probes and logic analyzers.
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently and across distributed teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with video codecs, sensor/display bring-up, SerDes, interoperability testing, I2C/I3C/SPI board-level debug.
- Familiarity with Lauterbach Trace32, ARM CoreSight, DSPs, RTOS/Linux/Android/QNX environments, FPGA prototyping and RTL concepts (Verilog/SystemVerilog, UVM).
- Experience with DFT/DFD, ATE/ATPG, SLT, production validation, or mentoring/leading validation teams.
- Experience applying AI/ML to validation, log analysis, coverage analysis or automating debug and reporting tasks.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field with 4+ years' relevant experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering or related field with 3+ years' relevant experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering or related field with 2+ years' relevant experience.
