CAD Engineer, ML/AI for Design Verification
Role Summary
Senior CAD engineer responsible for developing automation tools and flows for design verification (DV), enabling EDA tool usage across Qualcomm DV teams, and applying ML/AI techniques to improve DV workflows.
The role works within the ASICS Engineering group in San Diego and focuses on tool development, automation reliability, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to improve verification productivity.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 8+ years of experience in CAD, design verification, or related domains. Qualcomm specifies higher minimum experience thresholds depending on academic level.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and maintaining automation and integrating ML/AI into DV workflows.
- Develop and optimize CAD tools, flows, and automation to improve DV productivity and reliability.
- Integrate and enable EDA tools for Qualcomm verification teams.
- Research and evaluate new techniques, including ML/AI, and incorporate relevant advances into verification flows.
- Create and maintain clear documentation for tools, flows, and automation processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify problems and implement improvements.
- Propose and execute innovative solutions to complex verification and automation challenges.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, domain experience, and professional competencies.
- 8+ years of professional experience in CAD, DV, or related domains (posting lists 8+ years).
- Strong programming and scripting skills: Python, Perl, TCL, GNU Make, JavaScript.
- Experience developing automation, tool integration, and maintaining engineering flows.
- Familiarity with EDA tools and DV methodologies (VLSI design/verification knowledge is a plus).
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams; demonstrated problem-solving and resourcefulness.
- Preferred: experience applying ML/AI techniques to engineering workflows and leadership/mentoring experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Science, Engineering, or a related field. Qualcomm specifies experience-based minima by degree: Bachelor's +6+ years of ASIC/DV/related experience, Master's +5+ years, or PhD +4+ years.
