Job Title

CAD/EDA Tools Automation Engineer

Role Summary

Design, develop, test, and maintain software tools, flows, and automation that support physical design, verification, and EDA tool infrastructure for Intel's Foundry Technology Manufacturing team.

Collaborate with hardware, process, and manufacturing teams to improve engineering productivity through scalable automation and distributed job management.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career. Typical candidate: recent college graduate (Master's) with approximately 6+ months of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing automation, supporting EDA tools, and enabling engineering workflows.

  • Design, implement, test, and debug CAD/EDA automation tools, flows, and scripts.
  • Capture user requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Write functional and test code; perform unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Automate build, deployment, and delivery pipelines for tools.
  • Develop and maintain job management tools on distributed compute systems to optimize resource usage.
  • Maintain CAD/EDA tool infrastructure and support CAD software administration and deployment.
  • Standardize and document processes via workflows, templates, and reusable components; participate in code reviews.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience.

  • 6+ months of hands-on experience with programming or scripting (Python, Tcl, or C++).
  • Experience working in Linux environments and with version control systems.
  • Familiarity with EDA tool usage and physical-design workflows (place-and-route, DRC verification).
  • Experience with automation, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience developing tooling or job management for distributed/cluster computing environments.
  • Strong software engineering practices: testing, debugging, maintainable code, and documentation.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys ICV, Siemens Calibre, or similar EDA tools.
  • Experience with large-scale CAD software administration and tool deployment.
  • Experience standardizing processes into workflows and reusable automation components.

Education Requirements

Master of Science (MS) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field is required. A PhD in these fields is a preferred qualification. Candidates must have the required degree by the date of hire.
