Job Title
BMS Product Definer
Role Summary
The BMS Product Definer translates market opportunities, customer requirements, and technology trends into product requirements and specifications for Battery Management System (BMS) semiconductor products, chipsets, and reference architectures.
You will work cross-functionally with customers, applications engineering, system architecture, marketing, validation, safety, software, and IC development teams to define products for EVs, hybrid vehicles, BESS, AI data centers, robotics, and industrial electrification.
Experience Level
Mid-level β the role expects approximately 5+ years of relevant industry experience in product definition, systems engineering, or BMS/semiconductor product development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on defining product requirements, engaging customers, and collaborating on system architecture and roadmaps.
- Create and maintain Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), functional specifications, and use cases.
- Translate customer and system requirements into actionable product and IC-level specifications.
- Analyze technical and commercial trade-offs: safety, performance, power, die size, cost, scalability, and development effort.
- Drive requirement decomposition from system-level needs into subsystem and IC requirements and align requirements with available technology and IP.
- Engage with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, battery manufacturers, system integrators, and energy providers to gather and prioritize requirements and feedback.
- Support RFIs/RFQs, customer workshops, design-win activities, and roadmap alignment.
- Contribute to long-term product strategy and roadmap; monitor market, regulatory, and competitor trends.
- Collaborate with system architects on design-space exploration and architecture trade-offs across hardware, software, communications, diagnostics, and safety.
Requirements
Must-have items are listed first; preferred skills follow.
-
Must-have: 5+ years of experience in product definition, systems engineering, semiconductor product development, or BMS/electrification technologies.
- Proven experience working with automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, battery manufacturers, or semiconductor companies in customer-facing technical roles.
- Strong knowledge of Battery Management Systems, battery technologies, and pack architectures.
- Hands-on familiarity with cell and pack monitoring, battery protection, balancing strategies, and diagnostics.
- Ability to translate customer and system requirements into product specifications and feature sets.
- Familiarity with automotive development processes, quality requirements, and functional safety considerations.
- Strong analytical, system-thinking, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required.
-
Preferred: wireless BMS, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), BESS experience, AI data center power architectures, robotics electrification, semiconductor architecture definition, mixed-signal IC development, functional safety architecture, and edge connectivity solutions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BSEE, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering) or equivalent required; MSEE preferred. Equivalent practical experience acceptable.
