Baseband Hardware/Systems Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Baseband Hardware/Systems Engineer
Role Summary
Develop reference platform and system-level hardware designs that integrate Qualcomm SoCs, memory subsystems, PMICs, RF transceivers and peripheral interfaces for mobile, AR/VR, wearable, laptop, tablet, and compute products.
Work cross-functionally with silicon, package, systems, CAD, mechanical, and ODM partners to define requirements, perform signal/power integrity analysis, and deliver production-ready reference designs.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify a required number of years; relevant board-level hardware and high-speed design experience is expected.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include architecture, design, verification, and integration of platform hardware and driving designs to production.
- Define system and reference design requirements with distributed cross-functional teams.
- Develop and document platform architectures for mobile, AR/VR, wearable, laptop, tablet, and compute products.
- Design and implement high-speed digital/baseband hardware: schematic capture, BOM development, PCB/PWB layout support, and stackup definition.
- Perform signal integrity and power integrity analysis, simulation, and optimization for high-speed interfaces, memory subsystems, and power delivery networks.
- Design and integrate high-speed interfaces including PCIe, USB, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C.
- Support electrical and mechanical integration into consumer product form factors and perform design reviews with ODM partners.
- Provide technical leadership, develop design guidelines, and apply DFT/DFM and high-volume manufacturing best practices.
- Collaborate with silicon, package, systems, CAD, and customer engineering teams throughout development and production.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Board-level hardware design experience on CPU-based platforms, consumer electronics, mobile devices, AR/VR, wearables, or low-power systems.
- Digital/baseband and analog circuit design experience.
- Experience with signal integrity and power integrity tools and methodologies.
- Proficiency with PCB schematic capture and layout tools such as Xpedition and/or Allegro.
- Strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Mobile handset or battery-powered consumer electronics design experience.
- Smart glasses, AR/VR headset, or wearable hardware design experience.
- Laptop, tablet, or computer hardware design experience and experience with ARM or x86 platforms running above 1 GHz using LPDDRx memory interfaces.
- Experience with complex multi-module, high-speed hardware designs and low-power design techniques.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (e.g., electrical, computer, or similar engineering disciplines) is listed as the minimum qualification.
