Backend Physical Design Student
Role Summary
This is an internship on the backend physical design team supporting ASIC/SoC implementation and verification in Haifa. The intern will assist engineers with running physical design flows, analyzing results, and preparing findings under mentorship.
Primary focus areas are placement and routing flows, timing and signoff checks, physical verification, and automation/scripting to improve team productivity.

Entry-level / Student internship (early-career). Typical internship experience: 0β2 years.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for the role include:
- Execute and monitor backend physical design flows (place-and-route, CTS, routing, ECO runs) under supervision.
- Run physical verification checks (DRC/LVS) and generate reports summarizing issues and fixes.
- Assist with timing analysis and help track convergence to timing goals.
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks and analyze tool output.
- Document results, present findings to the team, and follow up on action items.
- Collaborate with RTL, design-for-test, and verification engineers to resolve integration issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Basic knowledge of digital VLSI concepts (clocking, timing, floorplanning, placement/routing).
- Familiarity with Linux command line and common development workflows.
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, TCL, Perl, or shell) to automate tasks and parse tool outputs.
- Analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail when reviewing physical design results.
- Good verbal and written communication for reporting issues and coordinating with engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Prior exposure to physical design tools or EDA flows (place-and-route, timing analysis, signoff tools).
- Experience with timing analysis concepts and static timing tools.
- Familiarity with version control and continuous integration practices.
