Avionics Test Engineer (Starfall)
Role Summary
The Avionics Test Engineer designs and implements test systems and automation for avionics hardware used on rockets and spacecraft. The role sits on the Avionics Test team and focuses on validating flight computers, power conversion units, analog/digital boards, FPGAs, and communications units to improve reliability and yield.

Entry-level / Early career β requires 1+ years of relevant experience (hardware development or electronics test and Python programming).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building test solutions, automating test execution, collaborating with design/manufacturing teams, and investigating failures.
- Develop production and lab test solutions for in-house avionics hardware that will fly to space.
- Write automation software (Python) to control units under test, test equipment, and instrumentation.
- Integrate test equipment and instrumentation into automated test systems and production documentation workflows.
- Work closely with design, manufacturing, and test lab teams to improve designs, test coverage, and yield.
- Root-cause test failures and implement mitigations as part of continuous improvement.

Must-have
- 1+ years of hardware development or electronics test engineering experience (professional experience, internships, research, or projects).
- 1+ years of Python programming experience for automation or test control.
- Eligibility under U.S. export regulations (ITAR): U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required Department of State authorizations.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with electronic test equipment and measurement techniques to verify product requirements.
- Understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing for improving test coverage.
- Knowledge of metrology, measurement error sources, and uncertainty analysis.
- Experience developing object-oriented software and functional test plans.
- Experience with environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, TVAC).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or physics is listed as a minimum qualification.
