Associate, FPGA / ASIC Verification Engineer
Role Summary
As an Associate FPGA/ASIC Verification Engineer you will verify the architecture, design, and implementation of FPGA and occasional ASIC designs for electronic safe-and-arm devices (fuzes). The role focuses on Verilog design verification and SystemVerilog UVM-based verification using Mentor Graphics QuestaSim/Questa Prime and requires collaboration with hardware and firmware teams to debug and validate systems.
Position is based in Cincinnati, OH with a 4/10 schedule (four 10-hour days per week).
Experience Level
Entry-level / Associate. Role targets current bachelor's students or recent graduates (completed within the last 12 months). Typical experience: 0β2 years.
Responsibilities
Work across design, verification and test to ensure correct, robust FPGA/ASIC implementations.
- Verify architecture and implementation of FPGA/ASIC designs (sensor interfaces, A/D and D/A, communication protocols, state machines, timer chains).
- Develop and run Verilog HDL tests targeting Antifuse and enhanced Flash FPGAs.
- Implement verification environments using SystemVerilog/UVM and simulation tools (Mentor Graphics QuestaSim/Questa Prime).
- Debug hardware and firmware issues in lab and target systems; perform functional analysis and performance profiling.
- Develop C# or C code for embedded microcontrollers as needed for testing or firmware components.
- Use lab instruments (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE debuggers, protocol analyzers) to validate designs.
- Contribute to process and quality improvements to reduce time-to-market.
Requirements
Key skills and checks required for success in this role.
- Practical experience with Verilog for logic design.
- Familiarity with SystemVerilog for verification and UVM, or willingness to learn.
- Experience with FPGA families such as Microchip/Microsemi Antifuse and Flash (ASIC exposure is a plus).
- Embedded programming in C for algorithms and optimized code; C# experience for microcontroller test code is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with lab/debug tools: logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE, and protocol analyzers.
- Ability to debug hardware/firmware interactions in test environments.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance; clearance eligibility may require U.S. citizenship.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field β or currently pursuing such a degree. Recent graduates who completed their bachelor's within the past 12 months are eligible. No certifications specified.
