Associate Engineer

Role Summary

Join Arm’s Physical IP Design Enablement team to build and maintain software tools and automated EDA flows that support custom cell and custom macro development and validation. You will work with circuit designers and software engineers across global sites to deliver automation, test suites, and scalable EDA execution on-premises and in the cloud.

Relocation and employer visa sponsorship support are available for candidates who require it.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Graduate (early-career). Suitable for recent graduates or engineers with limited professional experience.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on developing software and automation to support custom cell/macro workflows and ensuring reliable, scalable EDA operations.

  • Develop and maintain software applications and automated workflows for custom cell and macro development and validation.
  • Write clear, maintainable code in Java and/or Python; implement automation in Tcl, Bash, or tcsh as needed.
  • Collaborate with circuit designers and software engineers to gather requirements and deliver practical solutions.
  • Integrate new build methodologies and EDA tools into existing workflows.
  • Support efficient, scalable, and parallel execution of EDA workloads across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests; investigate failures and debug issues.
  • Participate in code reviews, document changes, and provide engineering user support.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes.

  • Strong programming skills in Java and/or Python, including object-oriented programming and data structures.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills with attention to software quality and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with software development fundamentals such as version control and automated testing.
  • Good written and verbal communication and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-have / desirable:

  • Experience or coursework in Tcl and Unix shell scripting (Bash or tcsh).
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix development environments.
  • Basic understanding of digital electronics, semiconductor design flows, or Physical IP.
  • Exposure to EDA tools or batch-computing and job-scheduling systems (for example, IBM Platform LSF).

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent practical experience, in Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or a related technical field.
