Job Title
ASICS Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Define, model, design (digital and/or analog), optimize, verify, validate, implement, and document IP (block/SoC) development for high-performance, low-power products. Collaborate with software, hardware, product and program teams to develop and execute implementation strategies that meet system and customer requirements.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical candidates have 6+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience; minimum experience requirements vary with education.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define architectures, circuit specifications, logic designs, and system simulations from system-level requirements.
- Design, optimize, verify, validate, and implement digital and/or analog IP blocks and SoC/IC packages.
- Evaluate and drive the full design flow from high-level design through synthesis, place-and-route, timing and power analysis, and verification.
- Utilize ASIC/EDA tool flows (e.g., RTL-to-GDS, Virtuoso) and custom layout flows as required.
- Collaborate across functional teams to align implementation with system architecture and product needs.
- Write and review detailed technical documentation for complex EDA/IP/ASIC projects.
- Provide guidance and supervision to other team members and influence technical decisions beyond the immediate team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience on complex digital/analog blocks or SoCs.
- Experience with RTL-to-GDS flow and common ASIC/EDA tools; familiarity with custom circuit design/layout flows where applicable.
- Experience with design verification methods and architecture/design tools.
- Proficiency with scripting and programming languages for automation and tooling.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex technical information and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to mentor or lead other engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience interacting with senior leadership and contributing to cross-organizational decisions.
- Prior work on low-power, high-performance product designs or IC packaging.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years of relevant ASIC experience; OR Master's degree in Science/Engineering or related field plus 3+ years; OR PhD in Science/Engineering or related field plus 2+ years. Preferred: Master's in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
