ASIC Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Contract position supporting enterprise networking and cloud SoC verification for a customer based in Carlsbad, CA. The engineer will contribute to architectural decisions and verification strategies to deliver first-time-right System-on-Chip designs.

Experience Level

Mid-level (5–12 years of industry experience)

Responsibilities

Work with cross-functional teams to plan, implement, and execute verification across block and system levels; lead debug and drive closure of complex issues.

  • Develop and maintain UVM-based verification environments.
  • Create and execute comprehensive verification plans at block and system levels.
  • Design and implement verification components: assertions, traffic generators, agents, scoreboards, and testbenches.
  • Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, and firmware teams to define verification requirements and testability improvements.
  • Lead debugging and root-cause analysis; propose and validate fixes for complex design and verification issues.
  • Perform timing and gate-level simulations and analyze results for verification closure.
  • Support post-silicon bring-up activities, including firmware/C coding for validation and characterization.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed after.

  • UVM-based testbench development and hands-on verification experience.
  • ASIC or SoC verification experience with system-level and block-level methodology knowledge.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog for testbench and verification code.
  • Experience identifying and resolving complex design and verification issues; strong debug skills.
  • Timing and gate-level simulation experience.
  • C programming experience for firmware used in post-silicon bring-up.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with formal verification techniques (abstraction, end-to-end checks).
  • Automation scripting using Python or Perl.
  • Experience with AI-assisted CAD efficiency initiatives.
  • High-speed serial protocol experience (UCIe, PCIe, etc.).
  • Analog debug experience (DAC/ADC, calibrations, white-box verification).

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree in Electrical or Communications Engineering or a related field. Fields mentioned include Electrical Engineering and Communications Engineering; no certifications were specified.
