Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior technical contributor and verification lead on next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs within Cisco's Acacia team. The role focuses on leading verification strategy, building verification environments, ensuring design quality, and mentoring engineers.

Experience Level

Level: Senior. Typical experience: senior-level (examples in posting: Bachelors + 8 years, Masters + 6 years, PhD + 3 years, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning, implementing, and overseeing ASIC verification activities for complex coherent-optics designs.

  • Lead and develop detailed verification test plans and verification testbenches.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques and object-oriented verification methodologies to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate timely execution of test plans across the team.
  • Review verification code and coverage metrics; improve verification processes and tools.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor teammates on verification methods and best practices.
  • Work cross-functionally to incorporate new test technologies and support silicon bring-up and lab validation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Extensive ASIC verification experience with modern methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming languages.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Strong C++ skills and experience applying object-oriented verification techniques.
  • Hands-on experience developing verification testbenches and test plans for complex SOC/ASIC projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead verification projects, communicate effectively, and operate independently in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with in-house IP development, DSP algorithms/modulation (e.g., QAM), C++ templates, lab silicon validation, and formal verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, a Master's degree plus 6 years, a PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience. (Degrees in engineering, computer science, or related technical fields are typical; equivalent practical experience is accepted.)
