Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior technical contributor responsible for verification of next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs within the Acacia team at Cisco. The role focuses on applying advanced verification methodologies, leading technical verification projects, improving processes, and mentoring teammates.

Experience Level

Senior-level. This is a technical lead role; see Education Requirements for experience guidance.

Responsibilities

Work as a verification technical lead on complex ASIC projects and drive verification quality, processes, and team output.

  • Lead development of detailed, comprehensive verification test plans.
  • Design and implement verification testbenches and environments.
  • Apply advanced and innovative verification techniques to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate execution of test plans across the team.
  • Review verification code and coverage metrics; drive improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers on verification methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and other technical leaders.
  • Develop and incorporate new test technologies, automation, and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for day-to-day verification leadership.

  • Extensive experience with ASIC verification methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming languages.
  • Proficient in C++.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented verification methodologies and ability to design verification architectures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience verifying complex, high-speed ASIC designs and mentoring team members.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with in-house IP development and leading ASIC technical teams.
  • DSP algorithms and modulation techniques such as QAM.
  • C++ templates and advanced C++ techniques.
  • Lab silicon validation experience.
  • Familiarity with formal verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, or Master’s plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience. (Degrees in relevant technical fields or equivalent practical experience are acceptable.)
