ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior verification engineer and technical lead for next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs in Cisco’s Acacia team. The role focuses on planning and executing complex ASIC verification projects, improving verification processes, and mentoring engineers.

This is a hybrid role (three days per week on-site) at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office and requires independent technical leadership, strong communication, and expertise in object‑oriented verification methodologies.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Experience guidance: Bachelors +8 years, Masters +6 years, PhD +3 years, or equivalent related work experience.

Responsibilities

Lead verification strategy and execution for complex ASIC designs used in optical interconnect products.

  • Lead and develop detailed verification test plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Design, build, and maintain verification testbenches and environments.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques and methodologies to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate timely execution of verification tasks across the team.
  • Review verification code, coverage metrics, and test results; drive closure of coverage and bug goals.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to teammates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate latest test technologies and laboratory validation.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Must-have: Strong experience with ASIC verification methodologies, object-oriented verification approaches, and verification tools.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in C++ and general scripting/programming languages.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to lead technical verification projects and mentor engineers; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with C++ templates, DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM), in-house IP development, and lab silicon validation.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Formal Verification tools and methodologies (for example Jasper or VCFormal).

Education Requirements

Degree guidance provided: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years related experience, PhD plus 3 years related experience, or equivalent related work experience.
