Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Work on verification of next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs within Cisco's Acacia team. The role focuses on designing and leading verification strategies, building testbenches, and ensuring design quality for complex high-speed silicon products.

This is a hybrid role (three days per week at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office). The position requires independent technical leadership, strong communication, and hands-on verification expertise.

Experience Level

Senior — expects multi-year experience in ASIC verification (see Education Requirements for specific years-of-experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning, executing, and leading ASIC verification efforts and mentoring teammates.

  • Lead development of detailed and comprehensive verification test plans.
  • Design and develop verification testbenches and environments.
  • Apply advanced and innovative verification techniques to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate execution of test plans across the team.
  • Review verification code and coverage metrics; drive quality improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers on the team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new test technologies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for this role.

  • Proven experience with ASIC verification methodologies and associated tools.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification methodologies.
  • Experience with C++ and SystemC.
  • Familiarity with scripting/programming for verification flows and automation.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented verification methodologies and practices.
  • Ability to lead technical projects, mentor engineers, and communicate effectively across teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DSP algorithms, modulation techniques (e.g., QAM), and related ASIC IP.
  • Experience developing in-house IP and leading ASIC technical teams.
  • C++ templates and advanced C++ techniques.
  • Lab silicon bring-up and validation experience.
  • Experience with formal verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years related experience, PhD plus 3 years related experience, or equivalent related work experience. (No specific fields of study or certifications were specified in the posting.)
