ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior technical contributor and verification lead for next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communication ASICs in the Acacia team. The role focuses on planning and executing sophisticated verification strategies, leading technical projects, improving verification processes, and mentoring engineers.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office.

Experience Level

Senior — technical lead level. Typical background aligns with 7+ years of ASIC verification experience; the posting specifies experience-equivalent combinations (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Accountable for verification strategy, execution, and technical leadership across complex ASIC projects.

  • Lead and develop detailed, comprehensive verification test plans.
  • Design and implement verification test benches and environments.
  • Apply advanced and innovative verification techniques to complex designs.
  • Supervise execution of test plans and track progress against goals.
  • Review verification code, functional coverage, and metrics.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor team members on verification methodology and tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to adopt latest test technologies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

  • Proven experience with modern ASIC verification methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming.
  • Proficiency in C++ and experience with C++ templates (preferred).
  • Expertise in SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented verification methodologies.
  • Experience writing scripts and automation for verification flows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and deliver complex verification projects.
  • Lab silicon validation experience and familiarity with formal verification tools are beneficial.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications specify: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, or Master's plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience. (No specific fields of study or certifications were required beyond equivalent practical experience.)
