ASIC Verification Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior technical contributor and verification lead working on next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communication ASICs within Cisco's Acacia team. Responsible for ensuring design quality through comprehensive verification strategies and technical leadership across ASIC projects.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week onsite at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office. The role requires independent operation, cross-functional collaboration, and strong written and verbal communication.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. Typically requires 7+ years of related ASIC verification experience and demonstrated technical leadership in complex verification projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include leading verification efforts and improving verification processes for complex ASICs.

  • Lead development of detailed verification test plans and verification strategies.
  • Design and lead development of verification test benches and environments.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques to complex designs and ensure coverage goals are met.
  • Supervise and coordinate execution of test plans across the team.
  • Review verification code, coverage metrics, and results; drive corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to verification engineers.
  • Collaborate with design, firmware, and system teams to resolve issues and integrate verification approaches.
  • Drive process and tool improvements to increase verification effectiveness and efficiency.

Must-have

  • Practical experience with modern ASIC verification methodologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented verification methodologies.
  • Experience programming in C++.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Experience with verification scripting/programming and automation tools.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical projects and mentor teammates.
  • Ability to work on-site in Maynard, MA several days per week (hybrid schedule).

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with C++ templates and advanced C++ idioms.
  • Experience with DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (for example, QAM).
  • Lab silicon bring-up and silicon validation experience.
  • Experience with Formal Verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).
  • Experience leading ASIC technical teams or in-house IP development.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications in the posting: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years, PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience. The posting does not specify required fields of study or certifications.
